This has been a productive and fun Fourth of July weekend for me. I took a four day weekend so that I would have a chance to enjoy myself even as I typed furiously away at the new book. I think I succeeded as I managed to write 16,000 words over the last four days. Sunday was really the only day where my internal whiner almost got the better of me. Otherwise I would have had 17,000.
Still, that's a pretty decent take and tells me I'm getting close to the end of the book. I usually am faced with an avalanche of words towards the end as opposed to the beginning when I have to fight to add even a sentence to the story. It's like all the things that I've been building up to over most of the book have finally hit critical mass and are begging to be released.
This is the part of writing that I love. Where the words practically write themselves and I'm just along for the ride.
I'm in my end game with approximately three scenes left to write. I'd hoped to finish by the weekend, but I don't think that will happen as I'm going camping this weekend. We'll see how much of the story I can crank out before Friday.
Despite all of my productivity, I still managed to do a couple of fun things this weekend such as go to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium to see all the little baby animals. We managed to see Nora, the baby polar bear, six lion cubs and two tiger cubs. They all just melted my heart. I used to work in the admissions department, but I haven't been in years. It was fun seeing how things changed and how much had stayed the same.
Even with the threat of rain, I still managed to have a cookout and see fireworks. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend.
I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July!
